1. Get comfortable around the camera. If you have rarely (or never) been in front of a camera, then this is your chance to do so!

2. Get comfortable around each other. You practice various poses,  Just like you do a trial hair/makeup run, having a practice shoot before your wedding doesn't hurt.

3. Use photos for save the dates, invitations, guestbook, canvas displays, wedding programs, and more... I see many couples using their engagement photos at their reception for guestbooks, famed photo displays, and even table #s. It's such an easy decoration!

4. Get to know your photographer better. Every photographer has his/her own vision, style, personality, etc. An engagement session is a great way to see a glimpse of how they work and what to expect on the wedding day.

5. Capture the milestones of your love. That just goes without saying. Because in 5, 10, 20 years you will love looking back at the beginning of your relationship, and see how far you're grown together. And your children/grandchildren will love to see you when you were young (or in your prime as they say nowadays).
